Plastic Cutting Board
One should think that plastic cutting boards would be of a more sanitary material than wood, but this is not the case.
First off, the surface, since it is softer, is easily harmed and scored by knives, and bacteria can harbour in the groves and cuts in the surface. And second, plastic doesn’t have the ability that wood does to close the cuts. It doesn’t have the anti-septic properties, either.
That being said, you could still use a plastic cutting board. Just take care not to harm it, and if the surface gets heavily scored, you should replace it.
Clean your plastic cutting board in the dishwasher, or use a dilute bleach solution.
You can get plastic cutting boards in a large variety of colours.
Some are even flexible, which makes it easy to move food from the cutting board directly to the bowl, pot or pan without touching it with your fingers.
One of the advantages of getting plastic cutting boards in different colours is that you can easily spot which to use for meat, which you use for vegetables etc.
Plastic boards don’t take up a lot of space, and they are easy to clean. They are much cheaper than wooden cutting boards.
You can get plastic boards in sizes like the big wooden boards, or smaller and more practic for just chopping vegetables and other daily routines.
